I thought this was interesting.  People always get in gear when it's too late!  It's not that hard to plan ahead.  We do it everyday in the simplest ways.  We wash clothes so that we have clean underwear, we buy gas so we can get to work, we buy groceries so that we have food for breakfast/lunch/dinner, etc.  We need to plan also for whatever disasters or crisis that could happen.  If not, then you could find yourself in this situation.  Just trying to educate people to get in gear.  We have nothing to fear if we're prepared.
